EBay Auction is Over!

In order to help pay for the vet care of the Siberian Huskies and Siberian Husky mixes in our care, we held a special eBay auction. Since we rescued 9 huskies on July 19th we now have over 25 huskies in foster care. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made contributions to the auction and general donations to support the rescue. Special thanks to many Sibernet-L members including Donna L., Veronica D., Bonnie L., Ursula R., Karen R. and Lois L. of Adopt A Husky. The total for the eBay auction came in at a little over $2,000!

Tails of the Tundra spent an extremely intense weekend this past weekend. You may have heard on the news, or read in your local paper, about a rescue that took place in Hazlet, NJ on Saturday. Volunteers from Tails of the Tundra were there and were able to rescue 9 dogs from a horrifying situation.

Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue joined with three other Husky rescue groups to find emergency foster homes for 18 of the Siberians discovered in a Hazlet, NJ home, where over 30 dead cats were also found.

Our foster chairman, Scott Bluhm, described the situation as "absolutely the worst I have ever seen, but the response from rescue has been just terrific. Nine of our members in Pennsylvania and New Jersey stepped forward immediately and offered to foster. We had only two days to get the dogs out of the house, get them to a veterinarian for examination and treatment (on a Saturday evening, no less!) and get them to their foster homes as far south as Cinnaminson, NJ and as far west as York, PA, but we pulled it off without a hitch."

Lorraine of Husky House writes:

Over 20 Siberians and over 50 dead cats were pulled out of a house in Hazlet NJ over a three day time frame. Several Rescue groups worked TOGETHER and saved many lives. Husky House Inc, Husky House NYC, MaPaw,and Tails of The Tundra all came together & worked as a team to get these Siberians safe and sound. The sibes range in age from 7 weeks to 10 yrs... mostly females. One pregnant and ready to give birth & 2 other females who may be pregnant.

The house was in awful condition, feces and urine everywhere... the bedrooms had feces 3 feet high in some places. Unfortunately we were too late for the cats..... Pat from MaPaw & Debbie from Husky House found over 50 dead cats upstairs. Bodies were everywhere. It was the most horrible sight I have ever seen, the images are forever etched in my mind.

The siberians seem to be ok, most are skinny and some are very nervous about going outside. By the end of the day all were giving kisses. Unfortunately 2 sibes went to the SPCA along with a german shephard pup. We didn't have any more room at the INN... but we haven't forgot them. All these groups are still trying to make room for the 2 sibes... a senior female & 6-8 year old male. german shep rescue has been notified about the pup as well. All groups are going to send medical records on every dog, as well as the many photos taken today to help the animal cruelty case against this woman so she can not have any more animals.

I just want to thank all the groups again for pulling together & saving these siberians.... and working on the 2 who are now at the spca. I will be going back to the house tomorrow with the animal cruelty officer for a final sweep of the house & tear down the outdoor kennels the owner gave us. If any other groups would like to help the 2 remaining sibes please contact me. We can arrange transport.

Please say a prayer for all those kitties that have gone to the bridge. Although I never knew them.... I will never forget them.
