PLEDGE TOOLS & TIPS: COLLECTIon TIPs

Below is a list of ideas and resources for you to collect more pledges! The more money you raise, the more lives we can save! Collect more than the minimum pledge amount and we'll reward you with great prizes and incentives too. Be sure to write each pledge on the sheet, collect the money and turn in all your funds on or before the day of the Hike and be eligible for prizes. Remember that you can even have people make a paypal pledge for you by visiting our PayPal Pledge Page!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us... call 267-566-5496 and leave a message with your name and contact information or email leew@siberescue.com.

Activities You Can Do On Your Own:

  • Set a goal for yourself that is realistic and challenging. You will be so proud when you reach it.
  • Make a list of everyone you know who could potentially give a donation. Or maybe you have a couple of lists, one for family and one for friends.
  • Set a goal to get in touch with three of those people a week between now and the Hike.
  • Keep a pledge form with you at all times. You just never know who you might run into.
  • Make sure you explain what you are doing and who you are doing it for. People are inspired by outrageous acts of goodwill.
  • Recruit family members and friends to help you fundraise. That way, you can have access to their network of friends and contacts too.
  • Start fundraising early. People need time to get back to you or send a cheque in the mail
  • Send e-mails out asking for help in sponsoring you! Remember that you can even have people make a paypal pledge for you by visiting our PayPal Pledge Page!
  • Encourage all your supporters to hand in their pledge money before the Hike. This will make your life so much easier, and you won't have to chase anyone down after the event.
  • Letter writing campaigns are very effective! Personalize them and use colourful paper to add excitement to your request.
  • Make it as easy as possible for your supporters to donate. Send a self-addressed envelope with your request letter, or offer to pick up the cheque.
  • Pace yourself. Don't get frustrated. Give yourself small goals per week, and congratulate yourself when you accomplish them!
  • Always say thank you, even to those who are unable to give you a donation for the Hike. You never know, they may be willing to make a donation next year!

Who To Ask - Here are some people you may not have thought to ask:

  • Family, In-laws
  • Friends
  • Work Cohorts
  • School Cohorts
  • Business Associates
  • Customers
  • Vendors
  • That lady at the Dry Cleaners that you talk dogs with
  • Ask businesses you frequent regularly for donations (i.e. petco, petsmart, fitness center, bike shops, restaurants, etc.)
  • Your hair dresser
  • Your Doctors
  • Your Dentist, Oral Surgeon, and whatever-kind-of-tooth Specialist
  • Your principal or teachers
  • Your/your guardian's insurance company
  • Your/your guardian's car dealer
  • Your landlord
  • Recreational sports teams
  • Your/your guardian's accountant
  • Your pet’s Veterinarian
  • Neighbors — current, past, your parent’s neighbors
  • People on your Christmas Card List
  • People at church, at your Health Club, in your Yoga Class, etc.
  • People you go to the dog park with!
  • If you own your own business, keep event information on the counter or the receptionist desk that lets customers/clients/patients know you are participating and that you are looking for sponsors (you might put out a collection can/box or a pledge sheet)
  • People who have asked YOU for support
  • Check to see if your company has a “matching” gifts program. Encourage your company to match the funds you have raised. This can double your pledges and help you win great prizes.
  • Ask your company’s President or CEO to write a letter to other counterparts to create a CEO challenge. Who can raise the most dollars?
  • Even ask people that you think WON’T pledge you! Because, you know what? You’re likely wrong and you should let them decide for themselves. No one likes to be left out. Even if they decline to support you, most folks appreciate being asked.

Other Ideas On How To Collect Pledges:

  • HOLD YOUR OWN BIRTHDAY PARTY!
Make it pot-luck and tell your friends you’ll provide the cake …make a note on your invitation “No Gifts Please! Though I'm now accepting pledges for the Husky Hike!” The clincher is passing around the pledge sheet at the party too! Works like a charm!
  • PIES OR ANY SPECIALTY YOU HAVE TO OFFER!
Offer to bake a pie of sponsor's choice for anyone pledging $50 or more!
  • SERVICE SALES
This is especially great for kids! Ask neighbors, friends, family if you can cut their lawn, pick up trash, etc., for a pledge to the Hike!
  • CASUAL FRIDAY
Initiate a Casual Friday day at your office, where staff members need to "pay"/donate money to your team's pledge jar to earn the right to wear jeans to work.
