March 2003 E-Letter
Welcome to the 1st Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue (TOTTSHR) E-letter! We want to share our successes, stories, and lessons learned with you. If you have something to share, a question, or a good picture of your husky, send it to: karenb@siberescue.com for our next e-letter!
Some of Our Available Dogs Include:
Venus
Little Venus came to us from a busy shelter in Philadelphia because her previous owner couldn't understand why she kept jumping over the fence. They didn't understand that this active 1 year old (approximate) just wanted to share her love with everyone around.
She gets along with just about everyone, and plays well with humans and other dogs.
Due to some limping, a thorough vet check revealed a touch of arthritis from on old injury, so she needs minimum care and long term use of glucosamine to minimize her stiffness.
Despite her creakiness, Venus wants to share her love with a family that wants a husky that loves to love, understands her need for moderate exercise, and daily glucosamine supplements.

Zodiac
![]()
Zodiac, approximately 5 years old, was found as a stray in Northampton Pennsylvania. Did he escape from his home and no one came looking for him? Was he dumped on the side of the road? We will never know, but we do know that this sweet boy is looking for a home that will never lose him again.
Unfortunately Zodiac was tested positive for heartworm, and has since undergone one treatment, and will be returning for two more before he's well again. He will be ready to go to a new home at the end of March 2003!
We do recommend that he goes to a home without cats, as he just doesn't understand them and may hurt them by playing rough. He would also prefer to be an only dog!

How You Can Help!
The Toby Fund
Toby's Friends "We give huskies a second chance at a good home; the Toby
Fund allows those in need a second chance at a good life."At first glance, Yoda looked like any other husky puppy as he bounced into
the shelter reception area without a care in the world. A second look
revealed an odd-looking paw, which didn't seem to slow him down any but
warranted a vet examination nonetheless. He was taken into TOTTSHR’s custody and recently adopted. He is currently under
the care of an orthopedic specialist. He is facing corrective surgery once he stops growing in a few months, which will certainly increase the spring in his step. Thanks to our Toby Fund, established to raise money for our foster dogs like
Yoda whose needs exceed ordinary veterinary expenses, Yoda’s quality of life
will not suffer. But the Toby Fund cannot continue to help dogs with extraordinary needs
without the support of donations. This fund is particularly critical when we are faced with a dog whose needs do not become apparent until after the dog has settled into his foster home and received his first vet exam.
For example, Zodiac (who is highlighted above) showed no obvious signs of there being anything wrong with him. However, his heartworm test came back positive and he is currently undergoing treatments to eradicate the heartworm. He will remain in foster care to continue his course of treatment before he is given his final bill of health.
The Toby Fund has helped to improve the quality of life of more than 10 dogs
so far, with medical bills for each dog ranging anywhere from a few hundred
dollars to over $3,000. Any support you can give is greatly appreciated.
While donations are vital to keeping this fund alive, we’re not just talking
about getting a check in the mail. You can also help Yoda and Zodiac and
other dogs like them by telling your friends about the Toby Fund to increase
awareness and support, joining our fundraising or grant committees to help
raise money for this fund, or fostering a dog in need.Learn more about the Toby Fund, go to: http://www.siberescue.com/HowHelp/Toby_Fund.htm
