Galileo now Frodo

This handsome young man was turned into the Antietam Humane Society in Waynesburg PA on September 8th, 2002. The reason for his surrender was "he has sudden bursts of energy."

On September 14th, 2002 he found the right home that could handle those "sudden bursts." He is now living it up with his new mom Stephanie and her roomate Heidi. Once known to us in rescue as Galileo, the man who discovered the skies, he is now known as Frodo the boy who discovered a loving home.

Frodo is now enjoying the finer things in life, such as long hikes in the park and playing with everyone he meets both canine and human alike.

His new family

We received this update from 'Mom' on October 8th, 2002:

UpdateI just wanted to let you know how wonderful things are going with Frodo (aka
Galileo) and send you some pictures of the silly pup in action.

I can't say how much joy this little man has brought to my life. He is such a doll, and the 'sudden bursts of energy' are one of the best things about him! To let you know, we (Heidi, myself and about 12 other people helping out :) decided on the name Frodo because he is a little man with a head to big for his body and big hairy feet... just like a hobbit!

He is doing wonderful with his training; he now does very well with Sit, On By, Leave It, Drop, we're working on Crate (which is getting better with the added incentive of Beggin' Strips) and trying ever so diligently to get him to learn Paw. He just looks at you quizzically and seems to say ' Why do you keep talking to me and touching my foot?'

He loves his daily walks (which equal about 5 miles during the week and up to 10 on the weekends), and that in itself is enough to curb the worst of the 'bursts of energy'. Funny enough, all you have to do is tell him to settle when he starts getting crazy, and he calms right down. He does love to talk to you, though, when he gets bored, almost as if to say 'Hey mom! I need some entertainment here!!' He likes the water and loves to retrieve water toys, but would rather stay in a depth through which he can 'hop' (he's much too impatient to walk or swim!). He is also amazing in the car. He just lies back and occasionally will stick out his nose to smell what ever is passing.

Even though Frodo was the 'surprise' husky on our adoption visit, he was definitely the little pup meant for my companion. I haven't found one single thing that I don't love about him, and I hope he feels the same. He is an ultra spoiled little boy, with a mom who dotes on him all day, and an Auntie (Heidi) who spoils him rotten! Not to mention he gets to go to new places and smell new things and meet new dogs almost every single day!

Again, thank you so much for helping to create this wonderful organization
that helped me find my little hobbit, and the best of luck in the future in helping other huskies find loving forever homes!

We received this update on November 1st, 2002:

Hi All,

Just wanted to give you a quick update and give you some more photos (I'm getting a lot of heckling due to my constant dog picture infatuation ;).

Frodo is doing wonderful, of course. The last trip to the vet, he had put on 6 lbs and he's gained some more weight since then. I believe were getting close to the ideal for him, no more protruding ribs and spine. He looks like a healthy, lithe 1.5 yr old husky pup. He's settled in wonderfully, although we have had to have a few lessons in 'who's boss'. Heidi and I think that maybe he was disciplined by the male of his other family, due to his tendency to defer immediately to men, while women seem to have to earn his respect. But with the proper actions and reactions, he has learned that, yes, mom IS boss, and we have an understanding now :)

November 1st, 2002We have ventured into the sport of rollarblading, in that I was finding he needed an opportunity to stretch his legs a little more (and I needed to find something that actually got him TIRED). That boy can RUN!!!! He's faster than me on rollarblades! We've had several people ask if we're training for the Iditarod, and I just reply (as I fly by at top speed) 'We're on our way there noooooooooowwww!!!' Ha!

Other than that, he's eating well, enjoying the chillier weather, loving all the travels and new people and dogs and really has become one of the family. Not only that, but he's also become quite the Mama's boy! Heidi always laughs at the fact that he doesn't like to let me out of his sight. I go to the bathroom and he lies by the door until I come out! But he has had no problems with the crate, he's fully trained, thanks to Beggin' Strips, and is perfectly content to take his naps in there during the day. He's also wonderful with his 'baby sitters', Heidi and Anshul, when I have to go to class or other appointments.

All in all, as I said in my last note, he's a keeper, he's the perfect dog for me, and thanks again for helping me find him!

Frodo exploring the bath tub. Later, he somehow manage to unscrew the tub stopper and carry it into the living room! Husky ingenuity!

Chewing away! His teeth are so clean now! He loves the Nylabones as well, which have done wonders for his tartar.

Sittin' back and chillin' in the car.

Playing with his buddy, Brinkley (my folks male Lab). We're going to go stay with them for 2 weeks soon, so I'm looking forward to a very tired Frodo!

Thanks again, and we'll keep in touch!
