Success Stories: Our Dogs

Kira was brought to the shelter by her previous owner, whose company relocated her to an area in which she could find no suitable housing that would allow pets. This sweet, friendly girl spent some time with a loving foster family before she found her home on April 10, 2004 with Tony and Pam and her new canine brother Shadow.

Kira's new dad and mom wrote us on 4/13:

Things are going well here. Saturday night Shadow wouldn't let Kira in the bed with us, but Sunday night the three of us, Kira, Shadow, and me were all in there together. Kira went for a ride in the car today and was an angel. She and Shadow do things inside and outside together. They were like a couple of little kids stuck in the house on a rainy day due to the rain today.

Want to thank all the members of TOTTSHR who put so much into making the adoption go so well. It was a pleasure meeting everyone.

Will send a picture of Kira and Shadow in the back yard together in a separate Email.

Thanks again for the group's efforts.

Tony e-mailed us again on 4/29:

The "kids" are doing well together. It is like we have always had them. Kira is the queen of the house. She and Shadow do everything together. Alot of outside playing. They even sleep in bed with me. Kira is very inquisitive, always looking at every thing. She figured out how to open the back storm door with her nose and comes on the porch and scratches at the back door when she wants to come in. Shadow uses his paw to open the storm door. She is full of energy and lots of fun. No accidents in the house. Food guarding is still an issue but it is not necessary to feed either one in the crate as long as there is enough space between them and they eat at the same time. Shadow usually finishes eating first and doesn't bother her. Toy guarding is a little better, but we do not leave toys available to her when Shadow is around.

Outside Kira has taken over the cooling holes under the porch that were dug by other Huskies. She has enlarged one to make herself comfortable and that's where she often can be seen napping. Shadow likes to sleep on the old picnic table under the apple tree which is the only reason we haven't gotten rid of the table.

As for this weekend, Pam, the kids, and I would like to attend Ag. Day at the Univ. of Delaware. Please send details and directions. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Tony sent us another update on 4/29:

Hi Everyone.

Kira is settling in very well, has had no "accidents" in the house, and is already running the show. She is proving to be a good companion for our other rescue dog, an 8 year old, male, Siberian named Shadow. They play well together in the back yard, sleep with me, enjoy their walks together, and, so far, have left the house intact. :)

I've attached a picture of Kira and Shadow.

Tony writes on 6/29:

Hi All,

Just a quick update on Kira. She and her canine brother, Shadow, are still getting along very well. Seems like she's always been here. Kira is very vocal and lets us know exactly what she wants. Pam and I enjoy her efforts to communicate with us.

Kira, Shadow, and I spent a cool morning at Gunpowder State Park today. They both like to go for rides and walks separately and together.

Attached are two recent pictures of them. The picture of them together seems like we always catch the two of them in the same part of the yard but they enjoy playing in the shade of the trees. The other picture is of Kira under the back porch enjoying one of her cooling holes. She has enlarged the one she's in to gigantic proportions and has earned the titles of "Crater Queen" and CEO (Chief Excavating Officer) of Kira's Construction Company. She can often be seen sleeping in this hole on warm days when she is outside. It's pretty cool under there. I was thinking of moving in with her myself.

Tony
